Good morning, ladies! At least, it’s morning here in San Antonio 🙂 Today we will be talking about patience! I struggle with this a lot, though I guess I have gotten a bit better as the years have gone by? Anyway, let’s get started!
Definition: the quality of being patient, as the bearing of provocation, annoyance, misfortune, or pain, without complaint, loss of temper, irritation, or the like.
an ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay
I think that the first definition relates more to what we are talking about, but I like the second definition because of the beginning.
Patience is important because 1) we make ourselves miserable if we can’t tolerate anything annoying 2) we make others miserable if we can’t tolerate anything annoying, because we will always be cross 3) there are lots of things in the world that need patience, or else it could end blowing up in your face! I was thinking of a book I read recently about WWII, and how it takes patience to deal with countries, but this is also true in everyday life!
Here are a few things that we can do to show patience:
- Try not to show your annoyance when your younger sibling, or classmate is annoying you
- Try to not to get angry when a task is hard; it is hard to think through it when you are angry! Trust me, I have had this experience before
So, I just wanted to say that I am still struggling with patience! Just this morning, my brother came into the room I was working in screeching at the top of his lungs, and I definitely felt a wave of anger wash over me. You just gotta do your best, and ask Jesus to change you!
I also wanted to tell y’all about something that has just recently happened. So, I used to be super irritated, cross, and grumpy about EVERYTHING! I don’t know if it was hormones, or what, but it lasted a long time. So, after a long tearful talk with my mom, she told me to start keeping a journal about the things I was thankful for. For a few days, I kept that journal, entering in 3-5 things to be thankful for morning and night, and occasionally noon. Seriously, it worked really well! After about a week, I felt much happier about things. I even felt like I loved my super annoying little brother more! So, if you ever have the same problem as I do, try this!
