The Struggle is Real {Guest Post by Kaylan M.}

REAL

It’s time for a sob story. Are you ready?

So… there was this guy.

His name was Joseph. He was one of twelve sons, and he happened to be his father’s favourite. This was made apparent by the fact that his father made an “ornate” robe, and out of all the brothers, he gave it to Joseph.

Doesn’t sound like such a bad life, huh? But the thing is, this favouritism caused Joseph’s brothers to envy and hate him. And to add fuel to the fire, one night Joseph had a vision where basically a bunch of grain sheaves representing his brothers bowed down to him. He told his brothers about this dream, and of course they hated him more. He had another similar dream, where this time his father and mother also bowed down to him, and cocky ol’ Joseph told his family about this one too.

This all stirred up so much hatred in the hearts of Joseph’s brothers that they wanted to kill him. But they decided they wouldn’t gain much from that, so they sold him to some passing merchants instead and told their father that Joseph was dead.

Imagine that. Not just that your brothers hate you so much that they sell you to the first people who pass by, but I mean, being sold? Leaving everything you’ve known and having no idea what’s going to happen next?

That sounds terrifying.

But Genesis 39:2 says that “The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered.” In Egypt, he was bought from the merchants by Pharaoh’s captain of the guard, a man named Potiphar. There, Joseph found favour in Potiphar’s eyes and became head of the household.

But Joseph’s hardships weren’t over yet.

Joseph was a good-looking guy (this is not the difficult part), and Potiphar’s wife decided she wanted to sleep with him. He refused, and in fact he was so set on fleeing temptation that when she grabbed his cloak, he left it in her hands and literally ran out of the house (v.12). After that, she lied about him and told Potiphar that Joseph had been the one who tried to sleep with her, and he was thrown into jail.

But yet again, when it seems like all hope is lost, we see the presence of God. Verse 21 says, “the Lord was with [Joseph]; he showed him kindness and granted him favour in the eyes of the prison warden.

In jail, of all places, God made Joseph successful. Joseph was put in charge of everything in the prison, and “the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did” (v.23). If he can do that, then how much more can he bless our everyday lives?

Now this isn’t the end of the story.

Joseph was successful, yes, but prison is not a very ideal place. Well, along came these two new prisoners, a cupbearer and a baker. They were both servants of the Pharaoh who had angered him in some way.

They each had a dream, which Joseph correctly interpreted. As he did so, he asked only that they remember him when released from prison. Three days later, both prisoners were released. The baker was killed, but the cupbearer went on his merry way… and forgot about Joseph, who spent two more years as a prisoner.

In this time, Joseph was essentially a forgotten man.

But God never forgets. He remembered Joseph’s existence. And God is enough, because guess what happened next?

One day Pharaoh had a dream that nobody could interpret, and the cupbearer finally remembered his prison pal. Genesis 41:16 says that when brought before Pharaoh, Joseph told him, “I cannot do it… but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.

Wow. Where is the insolence and swagger of Joseph’s youth?

The boy who bragged about God’s visions of his family bowing to him is no more. His old self has been replaced with humility, and a full reliance on God. Those years of hard times and suffering weren’t for nothing. Through it all, God was shaping Joseph into a man of wisdom.

And now finally, finally, it all pays off. Check this out.

Joseph told Pharaoh the meaning of his dream (there was going to be a famine), and he even came up with a plan to deal with it.

Genesis 41:37-38 says, “The plan seemed good to Pharaoh and to all his officials. So Pharaoh asked them, ‘Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God?’” Pharaoh recognized that there was no one as “discerning” and “wise” as Joseph, and he put Joseph in charge of his whole empire (v.39-40).

And that’s the story. Not just of a spoiled brat who overcame the odds and ended up on top, but of a God who always sees you, never leaves you, and has blessings for you in the end. Joseph learned that while God might not save you from hardships, he can redeem anything.

A speaker I heard once said that in times of distress, we often ask God to take us out of the situation, or to take the situation away entirely. But what our prayer should be is to ask God to enlarge us, to help us overcome the situation and navigate through the struggles we are facing. Because when we come out, it will be with a stronger faith and greater wisdom.

When the trials and tribulations seem like too much to face, act with the same mixture of humility and confidence that Joseph did and say with faith, “I can’t… but God can and will.”

The struggle will be real in this life. But Jesus has overcome the grave, and God is with us wherever we go.

Renew Your Strength

Hey everyone! I hope you are all doing well lately….but I know recently there are hard things going on… everywhere. This world is fill depression, suicide, floods, hurricanes, fires, death, pain, betrayal and so much more. The thought of all of that makes you almost want to give up…right?

I know it does for me. But then I think about God. I think about all that he did for us, and how we can’t give up, because HE never gave up! We want to keep fighting through the hard times, through the pain…but with our own strength we can’t win…. we must turn to God. We have to use his strength to overcome. We need his strength day by day.

So today I want to talk about renewing your strength. And what better verse to talk about than Isaiah 40:31, right? But I want to go over more than just that verse…
Lately I’ve been having a hard time feeling strong. I feel unable to complete what God tells me to do. I think I’m not enough. Particularly, not strong enough. Not bold enough. But that is not true, because God IS enough, so with him, I can be enough as well.

Are you hurting? Feeling weak?

Isaiah 40:26 says,

Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.”

Isn’t that encouraging? God calls us by name. He is nurturing us, and holding us through our weakness. Through our pain and hurt, he is comforting. He’s saying  “(your name), come over here, let me hold you. Let me comfort you. I know it’s hard, but I’ll help you through. I am strong in power. Not one faileth.”

Isaiah 40:28 says,

Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.”

Wow… if someone was to tell me this on my off day… If they see I’m down, that I’m out of energy, out of courage, out of strength, and they say “Hey, haven’t you heard?! Didn’t you hear that the everlasting God, the LORD- the CREATOR of the ends of the earth, he doesn’t faint! Neither is he weary!” and to know that we can have that kind of strength! The kind that will never faint. That will never be weary! That’s a comforting thought to me at least!

Isaiah 40:29

He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.”

Wow… That verse just gives me so much courage. To the ones that have no might.. not the ones that are strong does he give strength, not to the ones that are running low on might… the ones that have NO might, he increaseth THEIR strength…

Isaiah 40:30

Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:”

Even the show-offs, even those in our lives that seem so strong… that seem like they could never stumble, never be confused, even they will utterly fall without God’s strength…

Now this next verse is the main one I want to talk about. This verse has meant so much to me recently.

Isaiah 40:31

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

If we wait on the Lord, he shall renew our strength… Sometimes it’s hard to wait, but we have to. The pain can’t last forever. We must wait on God to work. Sometimes through life, we can soar as eagles, sometimes we can run…but sometimes we can do nothing but walk…but God gives us strength to walk without fainting… we may not always be soaring through life, but if we even have strength to walk…that is enough. GOD IS ENOUGH! He will give us strength so that we can walk and not faint, so that we can run and not be weary…and so that some day we can mount up with wings as eagles.

But right now, when the pain is overbearing, we have to wait. We have to keep walking through life and trust God… we have to just let God have the pain. We have to trust in his perfect will and his perfect plan. And pray through every situation.

Thanks for reading! Love you girls!! If you have any prayer requests, please share, we’d love to pray for you!

Dancing in the Dark {Guest Post by Ally}

compare

Many of you may recognize the title from the song Perfect by Ed Sheeran and might think; “Oh, finally. Ally’s become a proper teenager and gotten a boyfriend!” Two words.

No way. The reason I took the lyrics of Perfect as my title, is because (besides being one of the most romantic songs I’ve ever heard) I tapped into my philosophical side and realized that it had a great deal related to our faith in Christ!

Dancing in the dark. How beautiful. Let me explain…

Dancing. All you need is an iPod and your groove. Dancing can sometimes doing a routine. You have to be dedicated, committed and faithful to do a routine completely and properly.

And the second part of the line. In the dark. I mean, Christianity is an age-old religion passed on from one generation to the next. I’d guess a lot of Christians reading this have some Christian customs influenced by family and location. We believe even though we have no clue what’s going to happen in the future. Even though we can’t see, though we’re in the dark, we continue to dance.

If you’ve been suffering lately and think that the Lord is abandoning you, believe me, He makes you cry now so that you can laugh later. Romans 8:18 says that the pain that you’ve been feeling cannot compare to the joy that’s coming.

So, if you’re feeling in the pits, just remember this verse. The Book of Hebrews, as told by scores of my Sunday School teachers, is also the book of faith. It shows one the examples of those who believed and what their unending faith gave them.

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31

Isn’t that beautiful? There will come a time when all our troubles will be put to rest and we will soar like eagles and we will never be weary. I hope you liked this post and share it with other the believers who may enjoy reading it.
